SEPTEMBER 16th: PEC meeting held at St. Vincent College - Latrobe, PA at
Placid Hall in the Foundation Room. Guest speaker is James Kazmarek, retired PUC/DOT officer from
Clarion County. He will have a presentation on "The DOT and You." Please bring with you to this meeting: the gross vehicle weight of your truck which you will find on the side panel of the driver's door (not the weight on your owner's card). Also bring the gross vehicle weight of your trailer which you will find on the sticker on your hitch or on the goose neck. Jim will answer all your questions about truck and trailers being overloaded, who needs a medical card or who should have a CDL license for driving their big rig! There will be a $3.00 speaker fee collected at the door.
Directions from the East and West: take Route 30 to the red light to the entrance of St.
Vincent College. This is just west of the red light at the Latrobe Airport. Drive back towards the college until you come to the Basilica Church which will be on your left, you are to park in this lot. You will walk around the left side of Basilica and go about 500 ft. There will be a class room building on the right, this is Placid Hall. Meeting is in the Foundation Room which is on the second floor. SEPTEMBER 27 through OCTOBER 6 - The Keystone International Livestock Exposition (KILE) runs from September 27 through October 6, 2008 at the Farm Show Complex at 2300 N. Cameron Street in Harrisburg, PA. This is the largest livestock show in the eastern United States. This year the KILE will host the North American Classic Six-Horse Hitch Series national finals highlighting the 12 best teams in the USA. The festivities also include a wide variety of horse shows and competitions, as well as exhibitions of other types of livestock. The Pennsylvania Equine Council is a sponsor of this event and will have an informational booth set up for the KILE's entire duration. OCTOBER 3 Pennsylvania Deptartment of Agriculture Annual Farm-City Day, October 3, 2008 at the Farm Show Complex at 2300 N. Cameron Street in Harrisburg, Pa. Farm-City Day is part of Governor Edward G. Rendell's agricultural education initiative, which was launched in October 2003 to help teach agriculture in schools and raise the awareness of the importance of agriculture in our communities. The PEC will have the Equine Learning Station, complete with a live horse, there for an estimated 1,500 2nd – 5th graders. VOLUNTEERS are needed to help in the booth! OCTOBER 4 & 5 -- PEC PACKING TRAINING to be held near Campbelltown, PA (near Hershey/Palmyra area), for Trail Stewardship Coordinators and volunteers interested in learning to pack materials and tools safely for trail work and to cargo supplies to have a good time. OCTOBER 9 The 63rd Annual Pennsylvania National Horse Show will be held October 9th through the 18th, 2008 featuring the world-renowned Royal Canadian Mounted Police Musical Ride and wrapping up with the $75,000 Budweiser Grand Pre De Penn National. OCTOBER 24 - 26 The Pennsylvania State 4-H Horse Show will be held October 24th – 26th, 2008 at the Farm Show Complex at 2300 N. Cameron Street in Harrisburg, Pa. For more information, go to: 4-H Program on Penn State's website.
PEC ANNUAL MEETING - DATE TBD PEC Annual Meeting and Issues Forum is coming in November. Actual dates are to be announced. This will be a regional seminar focusing on emerging diseases, current disease control and NAIS. Speakers from all over the United States will be presenting information on these critical issues.
NOVEMBER 1 and 2 The Delaware Valley College in Doylestown, PA is hosting a northeastern Pennsylvania Horse Expo November 1st and 2nd, 2008. The PEC will have an informational booth at this EXPO. JANUARY 10 - 17 Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture presents the Farm Show, the nation's largest indoor agricultural exposition, January 10 through 17th, 2009, at the Farm Show Complex at 2300 N. Cameron Street in Harrisburg, Pa. The Pennsylvania Equine Council will have the trails booth and the Equine Learning Station at this event. VOLUNTEERS are needed to help in the booths! FEBRUARY 26 - MARCH 1 HORSE WORLD EXPO - The 7th Annual Pennsylvania Horse World Expo February 26 through March 1, 2009, will bring the nation's leading equestrian clinicians and entertainers to the Farm Show Complex at 2300 N. Cameron St in Harrisburg, PA, for four days of education, entertainment and shopping. Check out: Horse World Expo for more information.
This is the PEC's biggest public event and requires "all hands on deck!" To volunteer contact Gwen Wills at gwwills@pennswoods.net or Joan Pauley at jjasm@ptd.net. All volunteers at this year's Horse World EXPO will be given a pink button-down cotton shirt in support of the "Ride for the Cause" for breast cancer research.
