WHY?
Because we need you and you need us! Membership means muscle. The Pennsylvania Equine Council strives to be the voice for the equine community and industry throughout the state!

WHAT DOES THE EQUINE COUNCIL DO?
We are committed leadership in the equine industry. The PEC promotes your interests through legislative involvement and education, providing up-to-date information for our members. From the back yard horse owner to a multi-million dollar breeding business, the Pennsylvania Equine Council is "HorsePower" in Harrisburg for you. In addition, we offer the following:

- Education and Communication Programs are the backbone of the Pennsylvania Equine Council as it endeavors to provide members with the most accurate information about current issues facing equine owners and the equine industry.

The newest addition to our educational programs is the Equine Learning Center. We take this large booth with a live horse to venues in which there may be new and potential horse owners. At this booth, the PEC provides solid, science based information on the cost of equine care, the unwanted horse situation, rehabilitating the neglected horse and basic care guidelines. The goal of this program is to help new and potential horse owners realize the commitment owning a horse will or can be so that they can then make a responsible decision about owning a horse and help to reduce the unwanted horse population. Click here for more information about the Equine Learning Center.

- The Legislative Information Program takes a proactive approach to ensuring that Pennsylvania lawmakers have a full understanding of the possible impacts that any current or upcoming legislation may have on the $10 billion state equine industry. Your horse council worked diligently for 16 years to achieve the passage of the Equine Activity Immunity Act (Act 93), providing for immunity for equine owners, possessors or handlers.
Click here for current Legislative information.

- The Trail Stewardship Program offers one and three-day workshops that include concepts of trail layout, construction and design, best management practices and maintenance while cultivating a strong working relationship with state agencies who manage the five million plus acres of public and private lands here in PA.
Click here for Trail Stewardship Information.

- The Young Leader Program is designed to empower and educate young people while allowing them the opportunity to educate others. Active participants learn about the various aspects of the Pennsylvania equine industry and the issues that affect it. Opportunities are provided to meet with Pennsylvania legislators and to study the legislative process to learn how to effect horse-friendly changes; and to attend clinics, trade shows and social events relevant to the equine industry. Learn from industry leaders . . . and become one!
